What if I told you there Canadian Census records indices with links to digital images available on the Internet for FREE?
Yes, I am telling you the truth.
Automated Genealogy is a Canadian Census indexing project that provides very good quality indices that are searchable by surname. In fact, these indices are in my opinion, better than what you will find on some subscription sites. The index for each year is for every name enumerated in that particular census with the personal data transcribed with links to images of the original census page (Library and Archives Canada).
To date the following census records have been indexed: 1911, 1901, 1906 (western provinces), and in progress, 1851/52. The census images are transcribed, proofread and linked by volunteers. No registration or payment is needed to view the indices.
The 1901 census in particular provides links to other records for individuals including: census records from other years, birth, marriage, death, and other records.
