When one thinks upon Memorial Day, we remember the Americans who gave their lives in defence of the United States of America. However, they were many Americans who gave their lives in defence of Canada. We need to remember them as well.

One such American was Clifford Orney Bowers. Born in 1908 in Texas, he joined the Essex Scottish Regiment, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Private Clifford Orney Bowers was killed in action during the Dieppe Raid in France, 19 August 1942. He has been laid to rest at the Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery, Hautot-Sur-Mer, France. His sacrifice will be forever remembered on page 59 of the Book of Remembrance, 1942.

May he rest in peace.
