It's been a while, hasn't it?
You may think I've forgotten about you, but I haven't.
If you've been following me on Facebook, Twitter or you've attended a webinar or conference within the last year where I was a presenter, then you'll recall that the past 15 months or so have been a little rough with my knees. The good news is that my new knees are working great, and I'm back!
So with that...I'm excited to announce...
You've heard it was coming, and now it's here! My weekly Looking4Ancestors webinars called Genealogy with a Canadian Twist.
Every Thursday (or almost every Thursday) at 1:00 pm ET I'll be hosting and moderating a free weekly webinar about Canadian genealogy, and genealogy from a Canadian perspective. There'll be other topics too, like history, and special events.
Why Am I Doing This?
I belong to quite a few family history and genealogy groups on Facebook. Often I see the same questions asked again and again. "How do I find my ancestors?" "I found my great-grandparents but how do I find where they were from?" "Where do I look for records?" and the questions go on and on.
What really irks me is other members of the Facebook group will then go and do all the research for the inquirer and post the results in the comments. What has the inquirer learned, other than if they post a question on Facebook someone will do the work for them? This is, in part, why I am doing weekly webinars. To educate.
Furthermore, I see a lack of community within Canadian genealogy. For a long time, Canadian genealogical societies, and family historians haven't supported our own. We haven't. It seems our educators, friends and colleagues from the United States and the United Kingdom get the top headlines at regional/provincial genealogical events. It's time to change that. It's time to show what Canada has to give to the genealogical community. Let's build a community of people who are interested in Canadian genealogy, and are supportive of Canadian genealogists, historians, educators, and family history researchers.
[It's important for you to know this is NOT anti-USA or anti-UK anything. I have many family members, friends and colleagues who are American, British, Welsh, Irish and Scottish, and I love them.]
So, let's get started! Here's the link to register for the Week #1 Webinar:

This week I'll be doing introductions, creating our community, and then, I'll be demonstrating how I use some popular websites to find Canadian records.
There are a limited number of spots available during the live webinar. It will be recorded and made available for 48 hours afterward.
I look forward to seeing you there!
